“Memories can be characterised as the lived experience within a particular place and time”
In this exercise, we asked the participants in HOMS workshop to represent their city within them, by asking:
Which places in Homs reside in your memories?
The video shows the different ways people expressed their ideas without pre-conceived instructions or frames, giving their uncensored views of the city, using different methods:
- Competitive edge: comparison between here (present) and there (past).
- Sensory memory.
- Escape routes.
- Redrawing what’s destroyed from imagination or memory.
- Symbols of revolution.
Each image or map for the city was determined by the participant’s nostalgia, urban context, trajectory or journey, background and social class, gender and age, values and life styles.
